Chebe Hair & Scalp Oil | Strengthen, Protect & Retain
Chebe-infused botanical oil for scalp nourishment, strand protection, and length retention — for every hair type.
Where the chebe ritual begins.
While the Whipped Chebe Butter coats and seals the strand, this oil works from the scalp outward — nourishing the foundation your hair grows from while delivering chebe's moisture-trapping, breakage-reducing properties in a lightweight, fast-absorbing liquid form.
A dropper-applied blend of avocado, coconut, jojoba, and castor oils, infused with the traditional chebe botanical complex and activated with peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree, and rosemary essential oils. Versatile enough to use as a scalp treatment, a hair mask, or a leave-in finishing oil — depending on what your hair needs most.
The Chebe Infusion — What's Actually In It
Unlike chebe powders that need to be mixed separately, the chebe complex is already infused into this oil — ready to apply directly to scalp and strands. The infusion includes the traditional components of the chebe blend:
- Lavender Croton — the aromatic botanical component of the traditional chebe blend
- Resin (Croton Zambesicus) — the binding agent from the Shébé plant that gives chebe its strand-coating properties
- Musk Ambrette (Prunus Mahaleb / Stone Scent) — the traditional fixative used by Sara Kaba women to help the chebe complex adhere to the hair
- Clove — warming and aromatic, a longtime component of the traditional chebe mixture
Together these four form the same botanical complex the Sara Kaba women of Chad have used for generations to retain extraordinary hair length — now infused directly into a blend of the most skin- and strand-compatible oils available.
The Carrier Oils — and Why Each One Is Here
Avocado Oil (Persea Gratissima) — deeply penetrating and rich in vitamins A, D, E, and B5. One of the heaviest botanical oils, making it ideal for dry, high-porosity, or coarse hair that needs serious nourishment delivered directly into the shaft.
Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera) — the only commonly available oil proven to penetrate the hair shaft rather than simply coat the outside. An ideal carrier for the chebe infusion, helping deliver its protective properties deeper into the strand.
Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis) — technically a liquid wax rather than an oil, jojoba is one of the closest botanical substances to the skin's own natural sebum. Lightweight, non-greasy, and deeply compatible with both scalp and hair. Balances the heavier oils in this blend and makes it suitable for fine and oily scalp types.
Castor Oil (Ricinus Communis) — thick, slow-moving, and rich in ricinoleic acid. Long used in folk hair traditions for its thickening and strengthening qualities. Beloved by fine and thinning hair users for the body and resilience it adds to strands over time. The reason this oil works across hair types from 4C coils to fine straight hair.
The Essential Oils — Scalp Activation
Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia) — a beloved staple in scalp care traditions worldwide. Invigorating and cleansing in character, it's one of the most popular essential oils in natural scalp care routines.
Peppermint (Mentha Piperita) — creates a refreshing, cooling, tingling sensation on the scalp during massage — the kind of sensory feedback that makes a scalp oil ritual feel genuinely therapeutic. Long associated with invigorating scalp care in folk traditions.
Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Globulus) — an opening, clarifying botanical with a long tradition in scalp and respiratory aromatherapy. Pairs beautifully with peppermint for a scalp experience that feels clean and alive.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis) — one of the most storied botanicals in Mediterranean folk hair and scalp care traditions. Rosemary has been used for centuries in scalp preparations and has become one of the most talked-about ingredients in the modern natural hair wellness community. Invigorating, herbaceous, and a meaningful addition to any scalp-focused ritual — it rounds out the peppermint and eucalyptus beautifully while adding its own long folk tradition to the blend.
Three Ways To Use It
Method 1 — Scalp Massage Treatment: Part hair into sections. Using the dropper, apply oil directly to the scalp along each part. Use fingertips to massage in circular motions for 3–5 minutes — this is where the peppermint, eucalyptus, and rosemary do their most invigorating work. Leave on for at least 10 minutes or overnight with a silk cap, then shampoo out or leave in depending on your hair type and preference. Ideal for those focusing on scalp nourishment and anyone wanting a targeted scalp ritual.
Method 2 — Pre-Wash Hair Mask: Part clean, dry hair into sections and use the dropper to apply oil to the scalp and lengths. Gently massage into the scalp, then work remaining oil through the mid-lengths and ends. Cover with a hair cap or bag to allow the oils to fully absorb and the chebe infusion to coat the strands. Leave on for 10–30 minutes, then rinse or shampoo and continue with your usual routine. This is the method closest to the traditional Chadian application.
Method 3 — Leave-In Finishing Oil: Apply a few drops to clean, damp hair from roots to tips, avoiding oversaturation at the scalp if your scalp runs oily. Brush or comb through to distribute evenly. As hair dries, the oil absorbs completely — leaving hair light, softly scented, and with a natural, healthy-looking sheen. No greasy finish, no residue.
Usage Tips
Shake before each use — the chebe infusion benefits from redistribution between applications.
Always patch test before using a new product for the first time.
Start with just a few drops. Assess how your hair responds, then adjust amount as needed. A little goes a long way with this formula — especially for fine or low-porosity hair types.

FAQ
How is this different from the Whipped Chebe Butter? The butter is a heavier, wax-based formula designed to coat and seal strands — best used as a leave-in for coily hair or a pre-wash mask for finer hair. This oil is lighter and dropper-applied, designed for scalp nourishment and more precise application. They work differently and complement each other well — many customers use both as part of their routine.
Can I use this on fine or thinning hair? Yes — jojoba and the essential oil blend make this formula suitable for finer hair types. Use a few drops as a scalp massage oil or leave-in finishing treatment. The castor and rosemary oil content is particularly valued by fine-hair users for its thickening and strengthening folk tradition.
Does it leave hair greasy? No — the jojoba and avocado oil base absorbs fully into hair and scalp without a greasy finish when used in appropriate amounts. Start with a few drops and add more as needed.
Should I use this before or after shampooing? Both work. As a pre-wash mask, apply to dry hair before shampooing for the deepest chebe treatment. As a leave-in, apply to damp hair after washing for daily moisture and protection.
Is it vegan? Yes — fully vegan. This formula contains no beeswax or animal-derived ingredients.
How is this different from the Chebe Hair Set listing? The set page describes all three products together. This page is for the oil alone — ideal if you already have a butter and shampoo you love and want to add just the scalp oil to your routine.

I've tried oils before and had a problem with them causing my hair to be super greasy. I started using this oil and used maybe 2-3 drops and it's been fantastic. Less frizz overall and it works great to moisturize my scalp after clarifying with the chebe shampoo bar. I use it once a week as a hair mask and leave it in over night, but for day to day it's as needed if I notice some frizz. A little goes a long way and I've been getting a lot of compliments on the smell
I’ve had scalp issues since I was a child and have tried EVERYTHING for the condition I have and I must say this oil has been my best kept secret for managing my scalp and growing healthy, strong hair. I also use it on my strands in between my application of the chebe butter for when I need a moisture touch up to my curls. The main difference between the other “natural” oils in the stores is that I actually am familiar with every ingredient and so I trust I’m choosing the best and Most natural option for my hair. 10000000 % recommend!
