Most candles on the market are made with paraffin — a petroleum byproduct that releases synthetic soot and chemical residue as it burns. Soy candles are cleaner, but still fall short of what beeswax offers. Our Bee Pure candles are made with 100% ethically sourced organic beeswax, wicked with hemp rather than cotton, and scented exclusively with pure essential oils — nothing synthetic, nothing petroleum-derived, nothing you wouldn't want in the air you breathe.

Why Beeswax

Beeswax is the gold standard of natural candle wax — and for good reason. It burns significantly cleaner and slower than paraffin or soy, producing minimal soot and a warm, naturally honey-toned glow. Beeswax has been celebrated for centuries in natural home traditions for its incredibly long burn time — up to 5 times longer than a comparable soy or paraffin candle — and its bright, full flame that needs no synthetic fragrance to fill a room with warmth.

Our beeswax is ethically sourced, supporting sustainable beekeeping practices. Combined with a small amount of organic coconut oil for a smooth, even pour, the result is a candle that performs as beautifully as it looks.

Why Hemp Wick

Most candles — even natural ones — use cotton wicks, which can curl, mushroom, and produce more soot than necessary. We use hemp wick instead. Hemp burns slower and cooler than cotton, giving you more control over the flame, a cleaner burn, and a wick that's easier to manage. It's a small detail that makes a meaningful difference in both the performance and the experience of the candle.

How To Get The Most From Your Candle

These instructions are worth reading. A well-cared-for beeswax candle performs dramatically better than a neglected one — and lasts considerably longer.

Lighting: Light the wick from the base, directing the flame toward the bottom of the wick where it meets the wax. Think of it as melting the wax with the flame rather than burning the wick from the top.

First burn: Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the vessel before extinguishing. This prevents tunneling — where a well forms down the center and leaves wax on the sides unused. This first burn may take up to two hours. It's worth it.

Wick trimming: Trim the wick to ¼ inch before every lighting. A long wick produces a larger, less controlled flame and more soot. A trimmed wick burns cleaner and more evenly every time.

Extinguishing: Rather than blowing out the flame — which sends a plume of soot into the air — use a metal tool to gently dip the burning wick into the melted wax pool and then straighten it back up. This extinguishes the flame cleanly, coats the wick in wax for an easier next light, and produces virtually no smoke.

Wick management: If the wick curls or leans to one side during burning, use a metal tool to gently redirect it to the opposite direction while the wax is still liquid. To avoid breaking the wick, insert the tool beneath the surface of the melted wax into the hardened wax below to nudge rather than force it.

Safety: Burn with supervision. Extinguish before leaving the room. Keep away from drafts, flammable materials, and curious pets.
